Wall-mounted desks in real flats

Wall-mounted fold-down desk with lamp in a small apartment

Why wall-mounted wins (sometimes)

A floating desk can recover visual floor area and tuck under a window sill. The catch: stud placement and cable management decide whether it feels serene or improvised.

Installation reality check

We favour brackets that spread load across two studs and leave a service gap for a slim cable tray. Avoid “floating” shelves marketed as desks unless the rated load clearly exceeds your monitor plus elbows.

Depth guide

For laptop-first work, 45–50 cm usable depth is the practical minimum if you want a lamp or notebook beside the machine. Shallower tops photograph well but feel cramped by week two.
